South Africa 4

South Africa 3

"Our scene just seems to be getting smaller and smaller which is a bit disappointing, there are still shows going down but not as many as there used to be.

In the past few months there have been some new bands formed that are pretty rad...

Compass from Johannesburg have just posted some new tracks on their page

Towers from Durban

Brainwreck

Also SA hardcore legends Crossingpoint have decided to pack it up after a strong 10 year run, they will be missed. Ex crossingpoint members are included in Towers And Compass actually :)

There is a friggin kiff online zine called Rise, thats has some really cool interviews and news.

One of SA's best Go! Go! Bronco have put up a rad video - a must see.

And we are getting stoked for The Ghost Inside tour happening in May."

South Africa 3

South Africa 2

All is well here! There have been some new bands coming up...unfortunately with this many parting ways.

The death metal/deathcore/terrible wanna be bands have much over taken this place in terms of shows and bands , as well as can you believe it where once you saw HXC shows with sing alongs and circle pits DRUM AND BASS parties! What's with that?

New bands up and coming...

Check this out you wont be disappointed very unique for South African Hardcore.
Compass - From Johannesburg - Fronted by ex Crossingpoint dummer

From my home town (Durban) in a place which was once the epicentre of Hardcore in South Africa see's only two hardcore bands still alive comes

TOWERS - Fast Positive Hardcore.

Lastly Crossingpoint seem to have called it a day. The pillar of South African Hardcore for the last 10 years are set to have one last final show at end of this month before its members finally go their separate ways. That day is going to be both face melting and a sad one.

Everyone is selling out or fading out. Sorry about that. Stay gold.

South Africa 1
South Africa - Durban

I'm from Johannesburg. The scene here is VERY small, it seems to have gotten smaller over the past 2 years. And unfortunately there isn't much of a community vibe either. The majority are too busy trying to look tough...

But things are looking up, we recently have had the pleasure of some amazing bands touring here like: Have Heart, Shipwreck AD and No Turning Back which blew our minds! Its rad that they'd make the effort to come all this way.

Shows are usually independantly organised and Hardcore bands rarely play Hardcore Shows, they usually play along side metal acts. The main venues are

Black Dahlia

The Bohemian

Cool Runnings

Distros like Give and Take Records and Hope Haven Records are really helping by making the music more accessible.

Some of the Johannesburg bands are

Truth and Its Burden, who are currently touring Europe.

Conqueror

Reason To Live

Durban bands definitely need a mention with bands like Crossingpoint who were probably the first hardcore bands in the country.

Go! Go! Bronco

City Of Gates

And there are some sick bands preparing to get gigging soon ill keep you posted :)

Dankie ;)

South Africa - Durban

In the last year three of my favorite local HXC/punk bands have broken up like Colin Grove and The Rising End. Our "scene" here is super small and very much "clicky," in the sense of Christian Kids who dig the Christian type hardcore and the other genres of hardcore.

But of late there is a lot of hype about a new band that is up and coming which I'll forward you in time when they have some material down. Very much youth crew/posi kind of stuff, very cool.

Durban as I said is very niche to a degree, like these kids will go watch one band yet won't support the non edge bands... very lame, man. I was actually at a show on Tuesday were there were perhaps 150 kids and 6 bands playing. Cool thing is here in Durban HXC bands will play with a Punk or ska band just as the scene is so small they like to help each other out as bands. I just wish people would support them unitedly. Bands very much promote themselves and organise shows etc. There are regular venues of which 3 are mostly used , two of which are small bars which really have a rad atmosphere to them, the other is a sell out goth/"alternative" "club" which really only gives a damn about alcohol sales and has a shitty sound etc.

To be honest it was very much more about music and more about friends having a good time in the pits and sing a longs, don't get me wrong it still happens but to a lesser degree. Bands like Go! Go! Broncho are keeping it real and have a lot of passion in their music.

I'm not sure if you will be able to see this video but this was our scene like a year ago

Rising End's last show

What I will say is that HAVE HEART and SHIPWRECK were here earlier. They totally fucking destroyed this place and made a huge impact on ALL of us here. Pat Flynn one of the raddest dudes in hardcore today (IMO).

Have a cool day. It's New Years Eve here tonight so have a cool party (if you do so) yourself whilst we keep it clean here.
