Brazil 1
I'm from a city in the south of Brazil called Curitiba. The hardcore scene is no different than other city, the thing about the scene in Brazil is that almost every city has the same kind of style, in my view there's only two places that have a different kind of sound, that is the hardcore in Rio de Janeiro, and the hardcore in the north of Brazil. In Rio they like to mix a lot of rap with it, and in the north they have a mix of hardcore and maracatu that is a particular sound/style from the north. It is good actually.
The hardcore scene is very united everywhere, but just in some aspects... for example, there's no doubt that all hardcore people get united for a festival, or show, or whatever thing is that going to have a lot of bands, but when the subject is about some kind of protest or something related with the government people seem to never exist. It is quite awkward.
I don't think we're united like the hardcore scene in USA, and I listen a LOT of things from outside of my country, cause I don't think there's anything good being done here lately. The hardcore scene here in Brazil was the best in 1990 till 1998 when we had bands like Raimundos and White Frogs. In those years we had a lot influence from the LA Hardcore, with bands like Offspring, Green Day, Pennywise and Rage Against the Machine.
I think that right now there are a few bands that represent the hardcore scene here in Brazil quite well. Those bands are:
Dead Fish
Mukeka di Rato (Vitoria/Vila Velha)
Street Bulldogs (Sao Paulo)
Nitrominds
Ratos de porĂ£o
Matanza
Right now, there's something going on here. Really bad in my view, that the hardcore scene besides being more popular, is getting like a fashion show, know what I mean? Who has the biggest earring, who has the best visual for a show. It is something like the H2O song "Fashion Before pashion." I'm really sad about this. The hardcore scene here has everything to be the best scene in the world, but instead it is beeing denigrated by the media, producing tv bands to "symbolize" the national hardcore, but they don't have any idea what real hardcore means. It is all about money.
C ya!
